Amazing day out in chamonix. although i don’t like heights, the “step into the void” was one of the most amazing experiences i’ve had. if planning go go up the aguille du midi, definitely worth looking at the chamonix family multipass, especially booking online (3 days in advance) as it covered the montenvers railway too and saved us a lot of money on individual tickets. reserve your time slot on the aguille du midi cablecar first though. at busy times you need to allow at least 3 hours for the aguille du midi as you’ll be given a return cablecar time when you get tithe top. nb if you have a reserved time and a ticket for the aguille du midi you still need go to reservations desk to check in an pick up your boarding token.

We had a fantastic 2 weeks in chamonix, the valley pass was great value as we used almost all cable cars, chairlifts that were operational at the time, montenvers railway & mont blanc tramway . we didn't have a car so the use of the pass to use the busses was great, the only thing that would have been beneficial would have been able to use the local sncf trains free of charge too as we didn't have the opportunity to visit the megeve/saint-gervais/vallorcine area. the online booking system was quite restrictive as there wasn't an option to book longer non consecutive tickets before we travelled, we bought a 6 day non consecutive pass from the aiguille du midi station which was very busy at the time and had quite a long wait.

Generally things seem well run. communication with staff is pretty clear and things generally run as advertised. the webcams on the app are great for planning in real time, enhancing the experience. a few areas to look at: * some areas look messy, particularly with equipment left over from the ski season. a more thorough clean-up of garbage and broken/left over equipment would be good * the website for booking aiguille du midi reservations is hard to find and complex to navigate. it's also confusing in september when you can't book (but it still sorta looks like you can). it also talks about booking montenvers trains and i think that's not possible. * clearer & updated signs on timing of gondola would be helpful - so don't need to stand in it for so long.: flegere, brevent

The area surrounding mont blanc is simply wonderful. it is for sure worth visiting for its natural beauty. but additionally it is well prepared for the tourists as there are plenty of lifts, hiking & biking trails, restaurants and generally good touristic infrastructre. the prices of single services (e.g. lift to mb) are pretty high but fortunately there is a great option - a multipass allowing to visit multipile sites and use multiple services which is very attractive in terms of value/cost ratio. i think, however, that to make use of all these attractions one would need at least 4-5 consecutive days so i would highly recommend to offer such a multipass (now it is for 3 days which was too short and we didn't manage to use it fully and the next is for 6 days which for us was too long).
